Hikes around Herborn
Walking is an activity of the legs and a state of mind
This quote by Josef Hofmiller, a German writer, illustrates the power of hiking on the human psyche.
“The view over wide fields and meadows, the silence in the forest or the colours of a landscape – all this brings peace to the soul. “When walking, we do nothing, nothing but walking. But having nothing to do but walk enables us to rediscover the pure sense of being.”
Frédéric Gros, French philosopher
Hiking boots on your feet, mountains in view, sun on your skin – that is hiking happiness.
Life is movement
Observation tower on the Dollenberg with a view into the Dill Valley
Circular hike to the tower, 5 km, approx. 1.5 hours walking time
In 2016, Herborn hosted the Hessentag and for this occasion, this beautiful loop was created that leads to the Dillblick lookout tower on the Dollenberg. If you climb up, you have an unobstructed panoramic view on both sides of the Dill, a natural border that separates the Westerwald in the west from the Lahn-Dill-Bergland in the east.
Over hill and dale
Through the Hörre to the Jahntempel
Circular hike Dernbachwiesen, 14 km, approx. 4 hours walking time
The Hörre is a wooded mountain range in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park. We hike here on this Hesse extra tour. Among other things, we go to the source of the Dernbach at the foot of the Hohe Warte (405m) and to the popular lookout point Jahntempel.
Through forest and meadow
From Seelbach to the Falkenstein Pit
Circular hike, 12 km, approx. 3.5 hours walking time
The Falkenstein mine was one of the last iron ore mining operations to be founded on Hessian soil. The mine was started in 1957, but in 1973 it was the last mine in the Hessian iron country to close due to sales problems. We hike from Herborn-Seelbach into the Scheldt Forest – a wooded and quiet tour.
For all fresh air fanatics
Homberg Temple & the New World
Circular hike millennium trail, 11 km, approx. 3 hours walking time
The local hiking trail H 10 was opened at the turn of the millennium and is therefore also called the millennium trail. The tour starts at the railway station in Herborn and leads past the shooting range to the Homberg temple with a beautiful view of Herborn. The next stop is called Neue Welt. After climbing the Hohe Warte, the highest elevation in the town of Herborn, the route descends into the Dill valley and returns to Herborn.
Over hill and dale
To the Ambach Valley and Herborn Zoo
Circular hike Vogelparkweg, 11 km, approx. 3 hours walking time
At the northern end of Herborn’s old town lies the Kallenbach car park, from where the circular walk to the former Uckersdorf Bird Park (now Herborn Zoo) and into the Ambach Valley starts. On the way back from Uckersdorf, the route first takes us briefly in the direction of Amdorf and past the foot of the Johannisberg (421m) to the Schöne Aussicht refuge, which also keeps its promise.
